caveat emptor: latin phrase meaning 'let the buyer beware'. ie, what i'm offering is my personal opinion, based on my tech reading of charts. i am not always right; so whoever follows havta take responsibility for their own trading decisions yea. dow futures down. yl can still go down a bit more. wait and see. cosco going down too. actually, everything is. the calls are steady tho. 3450 = sti crucial support. watch and see. ok gotta get back to work. bad elf. >~< |

hullo. CFD = contracts for difference. It's a kind of margin acct where they allow you to buy long or short (most ppl will use it for shorting since you can use a normal margin acct for longs). Believe the trades have to be settled within a month tho. but anw, if you're a tech trader, one month is excellent already. just gotta do the reverse of your long trades, and sell on breakout downward, then ride it for the couple of weeks--eg, if you had shorted the china stocks like yzj (which was clear downtrend) from 2.70+ to now, it's a lot of $$. and in a way, 'safer' than an intraday trade, since you can ride out the intraday volatility. it basically offers an option to make money in a downtrend market. i haven't yet opened my CFD acct tho, so the more experienced traders like cashiertan and manikamaniko may be able to tell ya more abt it. i believe only phillips has it or something... yah. that's called a covered short. try not to go nude. :P |

heya sporeguy, no set target for yanlord. am more precisely waiting for williams to finish tanking, and for the busd to show large buy ups. they're currently still distributing leh. gotta be fast to catch this baby tho. ran it previous week in a two day trade from 3.3 to 3.54 (only to see the bleeping thing shoot up the next 15 min to 3.74. (&^!@#&*^@). wait for vol to increase to >4 mil in a day, and williams to hit at least -80 turning up. lesser risk. its a volatile counter but more steady/predictable than yzj. anw, the max range for yanlord is ~3.08 to 4.3. caveat emptor ah. |

...having said that tho. rights then consol is a standard mtd used by companies when they intend to start raising awareness and ramp up the px of their stock. the idea of the consolidation is to increase the share px so that analysts and institutional managers will notice it and start to recommend it/trade it. classic part of how a value stock becomes a growth stock. if it takes off, of course. quite a few do fizzle out along the way. altho for 2c, may be worth a gamble. very heavy selling pressure on this baby tho; that's partly why i'm not in it. (note: unlike terence i'm not a value investor tho.) |

rights issue is up to a company to decide what px they want to fix it as. it may not necessarily increase the px of the current shares, since rights will essentially dilute the float. 2 for 1 rights, then a consol of 25:1. so if we assume all rights are converted to mother share, then the approx value of the stock (taking the current 0.02 px) will be abt 16-17c. if abt 50% of rights converted to mother share (most ppl wld opt to sell the rights since it's worth more than mother share--likely the key shareholders' idea, hence the pricing of rights above stock value), then stock would be worth ~8c post consol. fair gauge would be the mean between the two: so abt 12c. (note your number of shares will lessen as well, so it's not exactly a jump in px.). assuming market conditions remain ok. maniam, may be good to find out how much % is owned by the top 20 shareholders. it's not the total float that matters, it's the free float. caveat emptor; not vested. |

hm. counters like stx po are actually good for trading (shorting or long) since its intraday volatility is high. so nickyng does have a pt here. huatah: shorting is when you sell a stock you do not own. then you hope it drops so you buy back at a lower price, and thus make the dif btwn your sell and subsequent buyback. most shortists will cover within the same day. if you leave it open to the next day(s), it's called a naked short. juz ask your broker to do it for you. perhaps nickyng can elaborate better on this. haha. note not all brokers will accept shorts tho. depends on your rs with your broker...also, shorting is not allowed on some margin accts. better to short on CFD accts really. at least then you have a mth. |

heya...juz my personal opinion: for some stocks, already some nibbles (eg, SCI). for others, not yet, still distributing/shorting/zzz-ing (see SGX). Singtel was beautiful today. Mostly zzzing away tho. managers all on hols. haha. Thin vols make for volatile days; just one BB alone is enough to shake the market. Markets are a flipping fixed board. the US/global manipulation is so blatant its unbelievable. (note: just my personal opinion; i could just be seeing ghosts where none exist. haha.) short answer: have taken the opp today to buy some call warrants first. the stocks on my buy list are SCI and SGX. but strike px not yet. i'd play yanlord again if its signals clear up. easier counter than yzj. cosco not yet; wld like a sub-6. if they don't hit my strike px i won't buy tho. just the calls are enough alr...nd to stay light as possible. lookit your charts, manikamaniko. busd. you're a way more experienced trader than i am. :) caveat emptor for all the above. |

HSI tanked 385 pts, dow futures down, of course sti drop lah....markets have factored in a 25 basis pt cut; so it'll take a 50 pt cut for a rally tmrw. if it's only 25--which is the consensus--expect further selling tmrw. look at charts of the oct cut; wldn't expect dif. time next two weeks to hunt the blues and calls for jan... |

expecting the dip to start taking place mon or afternoon of the 12th actually. hmm...manipulation or not, doesn't really matter. since how does one qualify that anyway... the key thing is that vols are thin, so movement will definitely be volatile. |
