Ellipsiz warned that profit for H1 ended Dec ?07 will be ?significantly lower? than a year ago, when the profit was a robust $10.89 m. (Profit in H2 ended Jun ?07 had already slipped to $4.14 m.) Ellipsiz has also appointed Melvin Chan as the new CEO, as Xavier Chong gives up the role to remain as Executive Chairman. Ellipsiz?s share price has dropped about 70% since the prospective buyer terminated talks with the company in Jun. Ellipsiz is at its lowest since 2003. |

Ellipsiz said it expects significantly lower profits for the 6 months to Dec '07, compared to the $10.9 million it earned in the same period a year ago, due to a sharp drop in chip prices.
"The first 6 months of 2007 saw sharp decline in average selling price for semiconductor chips due to intense competition, pricing pressure and inventory issues. This situation continued into second half of 2007," the company said in a filing to SGX. Ellipsiz said its margins and profits were further impacted by higher costs from the weakening of the US$, and the restructuring of its distribution and services business, but said it expected to remain profitable for the period. Ellipsiz said it will announce its results for the six months to Dec '07 on Feb 14. The company had announced last Jun a failed takeover bid by an unnamed party, after talks to sell its shares ended without an agreement. |
