Shanghai's Composite index ended down 5.16 per cent, or 162.31 points, at 2,985.44. It was Shanghai's biggest fall in 14 months, "Investors are in a rush to lock in profits as they are concerned that the central bank may launch more tightening measures over the weekend," Chinese banking and property stocks proved particularly vulnerable, with Industrial and Commercial Bank of China ending down 1.9 per cent and China Merchants Bank down 5.2 per cent.

SINGAPORE, Nov 9 (Reuters) - Singapore shares may open lower on Tuesday after Wall Street retreated overnight from a two-year high, weighed down by financial stocks and a stronger dollar.

Singapore's Wilmar International , the world's largest palm oil firm, may be in focus after it said on Monday that Australia's Foreign Investment Review Board has approved its $1.5 billion purchase of Sucrogen from CSR Ltd .

OCBC pips DBS as No1 bank in S-E Asia
OCBC Bank has overtaken DBS as the largest bank in South-east Asia in terms of market capitalisation, as analysts rerated the stock following its strong third-quarter results. Yesterday, OCBC continued its juggernaut run, ending 31 cents higher at $10.24, giving it a market capitalisation of $34.2 billion, $1.7 billion more than DBS's $32.5 billion. It is $5.3 billion ahead of United Overseas Bank's market cap of $28.9 billion.

The government had recently warned that there was room for only two big domestic banks in the Singapore, if they were to compete with foreign banks in the globalised economy.

Singapore, November 12, 2010 - STX OSV Holdings Limited ("STX OSV" or the "Group"), a major global designer and shipbuilder of offshore and specialized vessels, saw strong market interest on its trading debut with 58.7 million Shares changing hands during the day. STX OSV’s Shares opened at S$0.85 each, a 7.6 per cent increase over its offering price of S$0.79 per Share. The Shares traded at an intra-day high of S$0.88 and closed at S$0.81, a 2.5 per cent increase over its offering price. STX OSV is the first Norwegian-headquartered company to seek a primary listing on the Singapore Exchange.
