News update....(Reuters) - In the day. Western warplanes hit military targets deep inside Libya on Thurs but failed to prevent tanks re-entering the western town of Misrata overnight and besieging its main hospital.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/03/24/us-libya-idUSTRE7270JP20110324

Under darkness cloaked the city of darkness. Gaddafi's tanks rolled back into Misrata and shelled the area near the hospital, which was also under fire from govt snipers, residents and rebels said.

" The situation is very serious," a doctor in the western town said by telephone before the line was cut off.

A resident called Abdelbasset said 6,000 workers and family members from Egypt and other African countries were stuck in the port, under the eye of two Libyan warships which moved in on Wednesday. " They haven't attacked but if they do, the thousands of workers will be the first victims," he said.

http://english.aljazeera.net/news/africa/2011/03/20113242425700917.html  as Airstrikes fail to deter Gaddafi forces

Undaunted by air strikes launched by coalition  warplanes aimed at enforcing a no-fly  zone,  pro-Gaddafi forces  pressed ahead with their assaults on  towns of Misurata, Ajdabiya and Zintan in the past 24 hours.

Pro-democracy fighters are finding the going tough. Mostly outgunned and with little command structure, left to run sporadic raids against Gaddafi's troops, before falling back to their original lines.

" On the ground, the  situation in [city of] Ajdabiya is that there have been some air strikes there by western powers, but they haven't managed to dislodge Gaddafi's tanks,"

STI is still more prom to the downside, so any bad news can easily spook the market.

However, unless there is a major bad news that takes everyone by surprise, I don't think STI would fall to 2900 within the next 2 days.

In the mid to longer term, STI is still downtrending, so 2900 within the next few months or maybe weeks is possible.

Just my view.

Just sharing some info here from Reuter...News.

March 23 (Reuters) Regional  Asia's stock mkts posted gains on Wed led by commodity and energy shares, But investors were still wary of uncertainty over the human and economic toll inflicted by Japan's earthquake, tsunami and nuclear crisis and possible oil price rises as a result of ongoing violence in Libya and turmoil in the Middle East. Singapore < .FTSTI> was up 0.7 percent, its best since March 14.

Except in Singapore, traded share volume in all other markets was lower than their respective 30-day averages due to the impact of crises in Japan and the Arab world.

Analysts expect investors to buy back into risky assets when global factors are more favourable, with valuations of the regional markets becoming more attractive after a recent slump.

" Selective buying in big cap bank and energy was keeping the index up, but light trading volume and quick profit-taking pointed to underlying concerns about Japan's nuclear problems and the Middle East crisis," said Teerada Charnyingyong, a strategist at Phillip Securities.

which analysts said was due to increased interest in coal with many governments reviewing planned nuclear energy projects.

" The outlook for coal prices is quite positive after the Japan crisis," said Harry Su, head of research at Jakarta-based Bahana Securities. " Nuclear power plants are being reviewed and more countries would go for coal-fired power plants."

In Singapore, commodity firm Olam International gained 4.2 percent on positive outlook and attractive valuations
following a recent correction in soft commodity prices. Palm oil firm Golden Agri-Resources rose 3.8 percent on hopes that oil supply constraints due to Middle East tensions would boost demand for biofuels.

Indonesia saw a net inflow of $25.9 million on Wednesday after recording $36.6 million outflow in the first two days of the week, while Malaysia saw $6.7 million worth of outflows.
