Regional  Asia Stocks--Most climb at end of soft quarter

March 31 (Reuters) - Growing appetite for risk and optimism over earnings lifted most Southeast Asian stk mkts on Thurs, the region ended the quarter mostly in the red due to a soft start to the year.

Most share mkts capped the quarter near multi-wk highs, helped by capital inflows. Turnover in M'sia< .KLSE> , Thai< .SETI> stk mkt and this region share a similar positive economic outlook and Indonesia< .JKSE> each was well above the 30-day average, their uptrend is likely to continue, at least in the medium term

Indonesia's posted $460 million  outflows and Thailand's $20 million in the quarter.

Asian stocks advanced on Thurs, heading for a quarterly gain despite a sharp sell-off earlier this mth after disaster struck Japan, while the yen was poised for a quarterly loss on expectations Tokyo will have to maintain super-loose monetary policy far longer than EU and the U.S.

Among bright spots, OCBC rose 1.3% to 6-wk highs, SingTel rose 1.0% to $3.02, while  HPH Trust  in US$  rose  0.005 cent, on heavy volume of 459,055,000 million of share changed hands, and  Serial System jumped as much as 10% on expectations may receive more orders, on  disruptions of some of its competitors in the aftermath of the Japan earthquake. Serial system closed at 0.155c +0.005c or 3.3%

* Mideast unrest, soft dollar, euro zone nerves lift prices* Prices head for quarterly gain, but smallest since Q3 2008* Markets fret over U.S. monetary policy ahead of jobs data.

SE Asia Stocks-Earnings optimism lifts stocks financials lead

* Regional bourses scale multi-week highs
* Thai bourse see biggest inflows in three years

March 30 -  Regional Asian stock mkts rose in active sessions on Wed as investors picked up shares in companies expected to report good quarterly results, with banks leading the way on strong loan growth.

Investors appeared more confident  on  outlook, on corporate earnings in  d  2nd Q, outweighing lingering concerns of risks from the unrest in the Middle East and the effects an earthquake and nuclear crisis in Japan.

Growing appetite towards the end of the  1st Q  comes ahead of a raft of corporate dividend payments and releases of  1st Q  results, which are poised to lure more buying interests in the coming quarter.

" There's a chance that regional indexes could trade at new peaks in the next quarter. The  1st Q  results of Asian firms...is a positive story," said Viwat Techapoonphol, a Bangkok-based strategist at broker Tisco Securities.

Regional bourses climbed to fresh multi-week highs on Wed, in part due to hopes for a positive spillover from Japanese spending on reconstruction.

Asian stocks rallied on Wed as investors snapped up riskier assets on attractive valuations, while Japanese exporters were helped by the yen's weakness on expectation of interest rate rises in EU and the U.S.

Thing to note--Investors in the region were also watchful for inflation data for April, due on Friday, a further indication of the region's tightening policy. Inflation is expected to gather momentum for the remainder of
this year on potential state cuts in subsidies just as uncertainty in the Middle East raises risks of higher oil prices,

DEALS-Private equity investment off to steady start in Asia By Stephen Aldred

* China, India attract private equity
* Global buyout funds still dominate large deals in Asia
* Competition for deals pushing up some valuations

HONG KONG, March 25 (Reuters) - Private equity deals in Asia got off to a steady start in 2011, as buyout funds provided capital to companies in rapidly growing China and India, and some analysts say competition is pushing up valuation in some Asian countries.

Asia has traditionally been a growth market for PE funds, but increasingly, buyout funds are settling for minority stakes in listed and unlisted companies in an effort to deploy an estimated $73 billion of untapped funds in Asia, according to Thomson Reuters estimates.

Private equity investments in Asia totaled $2.6 billion in the first quarter of 2011, with China accounting for 34 percent, followed India with 26 percent, according to Thomson Reuters data.

" India is one area where deals are very fully priced these days," said Bruno Roy, managing partner at McKinsey & Co in Beijing. " China to some degree as well. So you've got to find transactions and companies that have a bit of hair on them -- things that you need to fix."

Global buyout funds dominated the high profile deals. Bain Capital LLC and Singapore's GIC paid around $800 million for a 26% stake in India's Hero Honda Motors Ltd , while Carlyle Group [CYL.UL] agreed to buy Japan's Tsubaki Nakashima Co in Japan for around $800 million.

Just sharing some news from Reuter...(This rate increases is only in S.E.A.) For more info n thing to note...

https://www.ketrade.com.sg/page/SLQG_NewsArticleFrame.jsp?ARTICLE_ID=4864698

March 25 (Reuters) - Consumer prices are rising in Southeast Asia so central banks are tightening monetary policy, but the pace will depend on how fast prices rise and how growth is affected by a surge in energy costs and Japan's earthquake.

Philippines finally raised rates on Thursday to curb inflation. Thailand, which raised rates this month for the fifth time in six meetings, looks set to tighten again next month. Indonesia, which pushed up its rates in February, left them unchanged this month but said it would adjust rates in stages if necessary. Malaysia had three rate hikes last year and may lift them again in May as inflation quickened. Vietnam, which is struggling to prop up its currency, raised some of its key interest rates again this month.

Asian shares rose on Friday as traders took a strong cue from Wall Street while sentiment was also buoyed by progress in containing a crippled nuclear plant in Japan.

Regional shares have also been supported by bargain hunting after a sell-off last week as dealers are growing more confident that the battle to avoid a meltdown at the Fukushima No.1 plant in Japan is being won with crews having linked up an external electricity supply to all six reactors and preparing to restart cooling systems.

The parents of a woman dragged by security men from a Tripoli hotel after alleging she had been raped by militiamen loyal to Muammar Gaddafi claimed yesterday that she was being held hostage in the Libyan leader's compound.

The mother of Eman al-Obaidi received a call yesterday from an unidentified person purportedly representing the regime, the parents told Al Jazeera.

According to the victim's mother, the caller asked the family to tell Ms al-Obaidi to change the rape claim in return for her freedom and benefits, including a house or money.

    http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/03/29/us-japan-zone-idUSTRE72S10820110329

" Betrayed" Japanese communities might never go home.

Plutonium has been found in the soil at the crippled plant 240 km (150 miles) north of Tokyo, authorities said on Tuesday, the latest in a series of radioactive contamination revelations.

Radiation has been found in the sea off the plant, in vegetables and even in Tokyo tap water, though only briefly, the government said.

More than 70,000 people have been evacuated from a 20-km (12 mile) exclusion zone around the plant and another 130,000, who live in a 10 km (6 miles) band beyond the exclusion zone, have been advised to leave.

District governments in several of the towns within the 30 km zone have relocated and basic supplies are running short with many trucking firms reluctant to venture in to make deliveries.

News update--Probing Libyan killings, ICC support at turning point

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - The upheaval in the Arab world and the U.N. Security Council's referral of Libya could mark a pivotal shift in support for the International Criminal Court, reinforcing its " real time" role in delivering justice.

The world's first permanent war crimes court has battled a lack of state support, with global powers such as the United States, Russia and China refusing to sign up, while some African states have been reluctant to carry out arrests.

Elsewhere, Arab and other Muslim states have been suspicious of the court, concerned that it was a tool of western justice. But all this is starting to change.

Amnesty International called the unanimous Security Council referral of Libya's violent crackdown on pro-democracy protests to the ICC an " historic precedent" .

it was the first time the United States and China voted to send a case to the court.
