What next?. Keeping in mind Aug 2, as....

President Barack Obama is challenging Republican lawmakers to present a debt plan - details,  for a smaller-scale deficit reduction program as he attempts to steer them toward his $4 trillion goal, a Democratic aide said.

Obama plans to hold a press conference at 11 a.m. in Washington today, his fifth public remarks on the debt in a week, as he presses lawmakers to reach an agreement to raise the $14.3 trillion U.S. borrowing ceiling before an Aug. 2 deadline. The president and bipartisan congressional negotiators agreed to meet every day until they reach a deal, said one legislative aide on condition of anonymity.

STX OSV (SOH SP S$1.42 OUTPERFORM TP S$1.70) parent, STX Europe has sold 215.59m  shares at S$1.33/share to OZ Management LP. STX Europe's stake in STX OSV will fall to 50.75%. STX Europe has entered into a lock-up agreement with OZ Management LP whereby STX Europe will not dispose of any additional shares in the company until 12 Nov 2012 (with certain limited exceptions). Expect share price to gap down on open as the placement was at 6% discount to market close. However, the good news is that with the placement done, institutional investors interested in buying the stock may finally make their move.  S$1.30-S$1.33 could now turn out to be a strong support level. Investors who bought at recent highs need not panic. Hold on to your shares as successive strong quarterly results, near-term formalization of TNOK3bn-Transpetro orders and stronger-than-expected order momentum is likely to lead the share price to a higher peak.

Surprise! U.S. govt's $14 trillion intervention, Can make money....bailing out of the financial system.

    http://finance.fortune.cnn.com/2011/07/08/surprise-the-big-bad-bailout-is-paying-off/?iid=HP_Highlight

We're counting these payments as an offset to the bailout's cost because they stem from the Fed's bailout activities. The Fed's increased profits come primarily from income on the $1.25 trillion of mortgage-backed securities it bought in 2008–09 to stabilize credit markets (Quantitative Easing 1), and the $600 billion of Treasury securities it bought in 2010–11 (QE2) to hold down interest rates and raise asset values. Even though QE2 is usually considered " economic stimulus," we're treating it as part of the bailout because rising asset values have helped stabilize the financial system.

It is coming QE 2.5, another 300 billion, U.S. money machine is busy printing....not enuff, can print more..Ya.

Mr JY Pillay is onboard, over nite can solve air safety, air operation problem?. Want JY to solve, wait  long, long.

I think better not to jump into conclusion too fast . Something i still dont understand why CEO sell so many shares and CEO AU leaving soon and now grounded.

Good news -  now is that Mr JY Pillay is now onboard, as an independent Director, with immediate effect takes over as non-executive Chairman. I think he will solve the problems fast.

The job mkt hit a major roadblock last mth, as hiring slowed to a crawl, unemployment rate unexpectedly rise.

Economy gained just 18,000 jobs in June, the govt reported on Fri, sharply missing most expectations and coming in even weaker than the paltry 25,000 jobs added in May.

It marked the weakest month since Sept, when the economy was still losing jobs. Immediately after the release.

More bad news: June's jobs report follows an already dismal report from May. Economists, for the most part, were hopeful that June would be better, predicting about 125,000 jobs added during the month, according to a CNNMoney survey.

Govt bleeding jobs, no end in sight, unemployment rate rose to 9.2% from 9.1% in May. Total nos of unemployed people rose to 14.1 million. A whopping 44% of those folks, or 6.3 million people, have been unemployed for 6 months or more.

The underemployment rate, which includes people who want to work full-time but are forced to work part-time, rose to 16.2%, its highest rate since December.

Overall, the job market is still far from a full recovery. The economy needs to add about 150,000 jobs a month just to keep pace with population growth.

stock futures plummeted and bond prices rose. DOW was down by 1.11% or 140.69pt to 12,579 point

Some news from U.S. on debt, on Aug 2, 2011.
Immersed in an intense struggle to cut the national debt, President Barack Obama faces a dilemma that will stay with him even if he succeeds in striking a grand deal with Congress: convincing Americans that the entire effort will do anything to create desperately needed jobs.

When stxosv was trading at about $1.25 there was a report that its major shareholder may sell and its shares drifted downwards to low $1.14.Co came out to announce and comfirm and at the AGM the CEO claimed beyond their control even though this comfirmation will add downward pressure to its market share price.

Today close at $1.42...and this fair value of $1.33 is likley to add pressure to the price...as more supply flood the market...Dow plunge > 100 points due to unemployment shot to 9.2% may add to further selling pressure. The price may drift even lower or around $1.33...no wonder today the push to new high $1.445..will be interesting to watch on Mon..today's high vol those who play contra on this counter will definitely sell....

A reminder of what can happen when both Democrat and Republican can't make peace on Aug 2, 2011.

Meanwhile...Minnesota loses its pristine debt rating, for failed to make peace over their budget dispute  to fill a $1.4 billion gap. (shortage of cash -  $1.4B)

A lower debt rating hurts Minnesota because the increased risk means it will need to pay higher interest rates to investors.

The state shutdown all but essential govt services on July 1 after Governor Mark Dayton, a Democrat, and Republican lawmakers are fighting over whether to raise taxes or cut spending.

This caused the state parks to close down throughout the Independence Day weekend and triggered the layoffs of more than 20,000 state employees. Road construction projects are on hold and highway rest stops are shuttered.

With 25 days to go before debt ceiling D-Day

" There's going to be pain involved politically on all sides" with any debt deal, President Obama said after meeting Thursday with congressional leaders, including House Speaker John Boehner.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- President Obama says he's gunning for the big deal -- the comprehensive, balanced plan that would take a big knife to the country's debt.

That so-called " grand bargain" would be worth up to $4 trillion in debt reduction over the next decade.

But getting that grand bargain will be very hard and not just because time is short.

" This is a really heavy lift," said longtime political observer Norm Ornstein, a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.

So heavy, in fact, that Ornstein is not convinced lawmakers will get past their partisan furies before markets go nuts and jolt them into action if only to raise the debt ceiling.
