Re-freshing - posted in Mar 2011. In the wake of Japan Quake and nuclear crisis...Asean must wake up to apocalyptic gamble. Why we, we need to secure unclear free Asean. teeth53 thot--Current horrors unfolding in Japan, must serve as an eye-opening to the horrors of any eventuality of Indonesia and or Asean apocallytic gamble if it ever took place on un-secure ground. A unified voice by Asean must be collective heard to discourage future gambles with innocent deformative lives and live that work inside nuclear plant. (refering to Fukushima 50 workers loyalty) be it living creatures that living in Asean ground and or under the sea. channelnewsasia.com, theedgedaily.com Malaysian utility Tenaga--first nuclear power plant at a cost of US$3.1 billion but is braced for objections from the public, a report said on Tuesday [22 Jul 2008] and then Deputy PM Najib Razak said consider nuclear power to meet its long-term energy needs amid surging global oil prices. A single typical mid-sized nuclear power plant--M'sia's nuclear energy plans are starting to look more concrete, now that we have dollar figure (US$3.1 billion--1000MW), and a tentative date (" post 2020" ). said Mohamad Zam Zam Jaafar " Malaysia going nuclear post-2020 was looking more and more like a necessity, it will be almost just in time for Malaysia's crude oil and gas production to peak. Yet another example that affirms my theory that producer countries with declining fossil fuel production. A nuclear-powered Malaysia would have access to cheap, reliable energy and they would steal a march on their supposedly more high-tech sophisticated southerly neighbour, if M'sia were to go nuclear. Developing countries eye nuclear power: report In Indonesia--newspaper reported planning the developments of a nuclear power plant on the island of Sulawesi, on its eastern reaches and is in an area well noted for major earthquakes. Hardly a whimper from regional govt about the inherent danger and an catastrophic within a hotbed of seismis activitiy. Note to prone on--On contrary, only last few years govt see and be seen expressions of interest among other Asean countries to also consider tapping nuclear power and going ahead to proceed with such perilous plan. Responses would seen as prompted Jakarta post reported Russia had indicated it was ready to provide Indonesia with assistant to build its own nuclear palnt in quake prone Sulawesi eastern belt. |

http://www.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/Asia/Story/A1Story20111216-316657.html Reuters. Friday, Dec 16, 2011 TOKYO - Japan declared its tsunami-stricken Fukushima nuclear power plant, (240 km or 150 miles)  to be in cold shutdown in a major step toward resolving the world's worst nuclear crisis in 25 years after it  knocked out its cooling systems, triggering meltdowns and mass radiation leaks. A cold shutdown is when water used to cool nuclear fuel rods remains below boiling point, preventing the fuel from reheating. one chief aims by Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco), all  3 of the affected reactors fell below boiling point and is  to bring the reactors to cold shutdown by the year-end. But Kazuhiko Kudo, professor of nuclear engineering at Kyushu University, said authorities still needed to determine exactly the status of melted fuel inside the reactors and stabilise a makeshift cooling system, which handles the tens of thousands of tonnes of contaminated water accumulated on-site. HUGE COSTS, ANXIETY -  The crisis shook the public's faith in nuclear energy Govt and Tepco will aim to begin The enormous cost of the cleanup and compensating the victims of the disaster has drained Tepco financially. The govt may inject about $13 billion into the  Co as early as next summer in a de facto nationalisation. Tepco estimates may pay about 4.5 trillion yen ($57 billion) in compensation in the first two yrs after the nuclear crisis, and experts say the figure could be as high as 4 trillion yen to decommission the plant  ($51 billion). Japan Environment Ministry says about 2,400 square km (930 square miles) of land around the plant may need to be decontaminated, an area roughly the size of Luxembourg or 3X more then d size of Singapore. Note - Singapore has reclaimed land land area has grown from 581.5  km² in the 1960s to 723.2  km² today, and may grow by another 100  km² by 2033. Chernobyl's experience shows that anxiety with residents living near the former Soviet plant still regularly checking produce for radiation before consuming it 25 years after the disaster. Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda sought to draw a line under the crisis, though experts say it could be 40 years before the site is finally cleaned up. Removing the undamaged nuclear rods from Daiichi's spent fuel pools next year. However, retrieval of fuel that melted down in their reactors may not begin for another decade. Living in fear of radiation isit a choice we has to choose??. Cases of excessive radiation in vegetables, tea, milk, seafood and water have stoked anxiety despite always  save, assurances from public officials. |

Tis whole idea of Germany  in Euro zone as main driver is to stablize Euro zone and making it competitive, which mean when their own house is in order,  their good produce  will be able to sell well. Right now Euro is slowly trying to get out of this so call debt  mess  squeeze-ing without going over board, in d shortest short cut way, which is better then supplying more print money, like what U.S. did. Day by day Euro lead by German will see more and more important role in leading others debt nations without firing a shot, if England see it future is in Euro then with others, she will hav to play an equally important role, rather then trying to protect itself, It has to engage itself more active role now.

Debt crisis scares Czechs away from adopting euro All non-euro countries in the EU, except Britain and Denmark, are officially committed to join the euro, though in practice they can defer that decision indefinitely." http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-12-15/wall-street-traders-confounded-as-global-volatility-extends-record-streak.html  (Traders Confounded as Volatility Extends Run...) http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp_world_business/view/1171369/1/.html Wednesday - BERLIN: German Chancellor Angela Merkel said  it could take Euro yr to solve its debt crisis, as growing scepticism about the outcome of last week's EU summit weighed on financial mkts. In a speech to the German Bundestag or lower house of parliament.  There could be " setbacks but if we don't let ourselves be discouraged...Europe won't just overcome the crisis, but will emerge from it strengthened." German Chancellor Angela Merkel added to the already weak sentiment when she told parliament: " Getting over the state debt crisis is...a process. This process won't last weeks, it won't last months, it will last years." After Britain, which does not use the euro, blocked changes to an EU-wide treaty, other 26 EU states signalled their willingness to a " new fiscal compact" imposing tougher budget rules. 26 of the 27 member states agreed. Meanwhile  Debt crisis scares Czechs away from adopting euro (teeth53 thot tis one still hav a chioce not to join) |

http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/green-living/why-the-haiti-earthquake-may-not-have-been-a-natural-disaster-6275044.html Their findings suggest that cutting down trees on steep slopes may increase the risk of not only landslides but earthquakes in heavily deforested places such as Haiti, which suffered a devastating magnitude 7 quake in 2010. " The 2010 earthquake in Haiti occurred... 18 months after the same area was hit by two tropical storms and two hurricanes," he said. " It can happen in other mountainous areas affected by cyclones, such as Japan, the Philippines, and maybe Central America," Geologists have previously discounted the idea. New study suggests a different mechanism based on changes to the weight of soil and other ground material bearing down on a geological fault under seismic stress. " Very wet rain events are the trigger. The heavy rain induces thousands of landslides and severe erosion, which removes ground material from the Earth's surface, releasing the stress and encouraging movement along faults." Dr Wdowinski said an analysis of the timing of earthquakes and cyclones in Taiwan over the past 60 years has demonstrated a statistical correlation, with a significant number of quakes bigger than 6 occurring within four years of major cyclones – known as typhoons in the Far East. Taiwan was hit in 1969 by Typhoon Flossie, then a 6.2 quake hit Taiwan in 1972. In 2009, Typhoon Morakot was followed by a 6.2 quake in the same year, and a 6.4 quake in 2010. Typhoon Herb, in 1996, was followed by a 6.2 quake in 1998 and a 7.6 quake in 1999.   Deforestation and extreme weather may later cause earthquakes, scientists believe.

http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/climate-change/exclusive-the-methane-time-bomb-938932.html first evidence that millions of tons of a greenhouse gas 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide is being released into the atmosphere from beneath the Arctic seabed has been discovered by scientists. Underground stores of methane are important because scientists believe their sudden release has in the past been responsible for rapid increases in global temperatures, dramatic changes to the climate, and even the mass extinction of species. Arctic region as a whole has seen a 4C rise in average temperatures over recent decades and a dramatic decline in the area of the Arctic Ocean covered by summer sea ice. Many scientists fear that the loss of sea ice could accelerate the warming trend because open ocean soaks up more heat from the sun than the reflective surface of an ice-covered sea.   |

Far fewer homes have been sold over the past five years than previously estimated, the National Association of Realtors said Tuesday. While NAR hasn't revealed exactly how big the revision to home sales will be, the agency's chief economist Lawrence Yun said the decrease will be " meaningful." " For real estate business, it means, housing market's downturn was deeper than what was initially thought." Europe debt saga far from over |
